Book Review and Giveaway: Sewn Hats

Sewn Hats is a fantastic collection of hat designs from a who's-who of pattern designers and edited by Carla Hegeman Crim (The Scientific Seamstress). If you've ever wanted to sew a hat, the pattern is in here. Really, it is. For girls, boys, men and women, it's all here. Fun, party, work, whimisical, sun, winter it's all in here. Skill levels run from beginner to advanced, so there's something for everyone.

Here's a gallery of the hats featured in the book.

Excellent instructions and diagrams are included.

What do you think? Does this look like a book you'd love to have? If yes, leave a comment on this post about a hat you'd like to make! Comments close Sunday, September 16. The winner will be chosen randomly and announced next week. Good luck!

I love hats and I'd love to sew some! I've never seen this book before. I would love to make myself an elegant felt cloche hat, I saw one a few years ago that I fell in love with but with a price tag of £40 and a Made in China label, I couldn't bring myself to do it!

I am known as the "hat lady" because I ALWAYS wear a hat. And if there is anything that is more fun for me than wearing a hat it is making hats!! Would love to use this book to sew the the cute Stocking Santa Hats for the new babies in the family, the Delmar Driving Cap for the nephews, the Downtown Hat for my son, the French General would be perfect to keep the sun off here in sunny Arkansas, the Extreme Altitude for my friends in Alaska and of course a vintage one or two for myself!!!to go with the more than 100 hats already in my collection. Thanks for the great giveaway.

I love hats! I would love to make the Sugar and Spice bonnet for my 2-month old and I love the French general sunhat for myself.

Oooh thank you for the review and giveaway - my husband has a big head, its true! I had to special order him some baseball caps so he had something to wear, but they don't fit perfectly, so I've really wanted to try my hand at hat making for him.

Super giveaway! This summer I was looking for hat patterns. I have melasma and had a small skin cancer on my face. On top of that, I have a big head (that's kind of embarrassing to admit), so a typical off-the-shelf hat doesn't fit. Instead of ordering a custom hat, I could just sew my own with some of the awesome fabrics available.

I just love hats, but never made one. This would be a great opportunity.

I'd love to make a vintage style hat for my mum, whose in the red hats! she's' always complaining that hats are too big, so a custom red hat would be PERFECT!

I looooove this book. I've been looking for hat patterns for ages and never finding anything that is clearly written or what I'm looking for. The first pattern I'd try would be the Altitude Hat for my husband. He's been wanting one of those for a while now.
